Enigmatic and surprising references to Plato’s thought are evident in Pasolini’s works, spanning from the 1940s to one of his last writings, Lettera luterana a Italo Calvino. This paper aims to examine these references. Firstly, it focuses on two texts by Pasolini: the first, written in 1947, interprets Plato as an existentialist philosopher; the second, from 1970, views Plato’s dialogues as a model for Pasolini’s tragedies in verse. In the latter, Pasolini asserts that the political nature of his works should be understood in the context of the «Platonic politics of the Symposium and the Phaedrus». The second part of the paper aims to shed light on certain aspects of Pasolini’s “Platonic politics” by exploring the themes of eros and power. Ultimately, these “Platonic traces” appear to guide us toward the poetic dimension of Pasolini’s thought.
