This study explores the influence of Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) on the acquisition of Chinese characters among foreign students. Given the complexity of Chinese characters and the challenges faced by learners, CLT provides a framework for understanding how cognitive resources are allocated during the learning process. By examining various instructional strategies aligned with CLT principles, this research aims to identify effective methods for reducing extraneous cognitive load and enhancing intrinsic cognitive load, thereby facilitating better retention and comprehension of Chinese characters. The study involves a comparative analysis of different teaching approaches, evaluating their impact on students’ learning efficiency and character recognition. Results indicate that CLT-based instructional techniques significantly improve students’ ability to learn and remember Chinese characters, suggesting practical implications for educators in designing more effective language learning materials.
