Considered in its semiotic and symbolic complexity, the cartographic imagination of a literary text or a film is crucial not only for the understanding of the cinematographic or literary work itself, but also for penetrating into the discourse of a determined historical epoch. What I want to show in this article is the function of cartographic imagination in science fiction films producedvduring the first three decades of the Space Age (1957-1986), which, more or less, coincided with the years of the Cold War.
