In interpreting Hippocratic texts, Galen had to face a significant challenge: to explain and uphold the authority of Hippocrates while acknowledging the remarkable anatomical discoveries made since the Hellenistic Period, which partly invalidated some medical theories of the Classical Age. This approach is evident in Galen’s Commentary to Aphorisms v 35, where he discusses the function of sneezing in a woman suffering from the socalled ‘uterine suffocation’ or undergoing a difficult delivery.

Abstract
In interpreting Hippocratic texts, Galen had to face a significant challenge: to explain and uphold the authority of Hippocrates while acknowledging the remarkable anatomical discoveries made since the Hellenistic Period, which partly invalidated some medical theories of the Classical Age. This approach is evident in Galen’s Commentary to Aphorisms v 35, where he discusses the function of sneezing in a woman suffering from the socalled ‘uterine suffocation’ or undergoing a difficult delivery.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
