Considering the wide work of Luigi Vanvitelli on existing buildings, the contribution focuses on altars and chapels. Starting from some new documentation concerning the case of the Roman church of San Pantaleo, the study delves into a reading of the work realized by Vanvitelli in Sant’Antonio dei Portoghesi and in Sant’Andrea delle Fratte, also comparing them with other cases not in Rome. An approach aimed at establishing ‘concordances’ with the existing architecture emerges, depending on the consideration of the former phases.
