Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made great progress in several fields. However, its integration among the elderly remains an under-explored area in the existing literature. The increase in the world's elderly population is a huge challenge and the adaptability of AI makes it a promising tool to improve the mental and physical well-being of the elderly during the ageing process. This research aims to examine the prevalent applications of AI in elderly care across various domains and to investigate the factors that facilitate its adoption among older adults. Through a systematic literature review, the current landscape of AI use in the elderly population is analysed and summarised. In addition, a comparative analysis of the theories and concepts that constitute the theoretical frameworks in the literature is conducted to identify recurring factors influencing AI adoption. The study provides insights into contemporary trends in AI adoption among older adults to clarify the factors influencing it and relevant challenges. This systematic literature review serves as a basis for further exploration in this evolving field, suggesting potential future avenues of research to probe the expanding role of AI in the lives of older adults.
