L’insediamento industriale della Snia-Viscosa a Roma. Cento anni di [r]esistenza tra storia, natura e architettura

Industrial archaeology is the object of a scientific approach now established from the methodological standpoint, but this does not always guarantee an effective process of patrimonialization. In order to ensure the successful conclusion of this process, it is necessary to link the meanings and destinies of this heritage to appropriate local development projects; the only option capable of recomposing the possible dichotomies with a view to social cohesion. The history of Snia-Viscosa plant, a major factory on the Roman periphery abandoned about seventy years ago, highlight the difficulties inherent in the process of adapting a production plant in an area of great complexity. The paper aim to focus to what extent these places can be considered a heritage for the community and through which mechanisms the latter, until now decisive in protecting their testimonial value, can contribute to the elaboration of a sustainable proposal that restores dignity to a site unique for architectural and environmental characteristics.
