La questione dell’origine del linguaggio in Warburton e la sua ricezione in Francia.

The focus of this article is the reception of Epicurean-Lucretian linguistic naturalism in the 18th-century French linguistic discourse. Specifically, we will examine the impact of William Warburton’s work, The Divine Legation of Moses Demonstrated (1738-1741), in France. After a brief introduction to the historical context, which provides insight into the issues that engaged intellectuals of that era, we will analyze the work of William Warburton. Subsequently, we will explore the distinctive editorial history of the work, which enjoyed significant success in the French edition, edited by Leonard de Malpeine (1744). The circulation of the French translation of this work profoundly influenced the 18th-century linguistic debate.
