The article initially deals with the state of the studies regarding the research of the ancient masters and re-examines some controversies that have arisen in the last twenty years around famous sculptures such as the Doryphoros, the “Ephesus-Lussino” type and the Apollo Sauroktonos. But the practice of attributionism is not only modern, given that antiquity has transmitted some heterogeneous cases of works of uncertain authorship (Phidias in particular plays a primary role). Finally, the contribution deals with some epigrams of Martial and his use of the names of the great masters often cited in sequence to ennoble various artifacts.

Abstract
The article initially deals with the state of the studies regarding the research of the ancient masters and re-examines some controversies that have arisen in the last twenty years around famous sculptures such as the Doryphoros, the “Ephesus-Lussino” type and the Apollo Sauroktonos. But the practice of attributionism is not only modern, given that antiquity has transmitted some heterogeneous cases of works of uncertain authorship (Phidias in particular plays a primary role). Finally, the contribution deals with some epigrams of Martial and his use of the names of the great masters often cited in sequence to ennoble various artifacts.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
