The remains of the defensive structures of the ancient Yemeni settlements are still today one of the elements that most characterizes the landscape. The aim of this contri- bution is to analyze the main terminology associated with the urban walls in the Minaic written documentation from the Jawf region, proceeding in a comparative sense, both within ancient South Arabian languages and general Semitic, and then selecting some of the main contexts of use in which this lexicon is used. This investigation intends to highlight traits of continuity and originality regarding the lexical choices in this specific architectural context in the linguistic area concerned.
