Ridiculous epitaphs and chivalric poetry · Humor, irony and comedy are characteristics of the Orlando Furioso, but also ways of its reception : there are numerous forms of rewriting of Ariosto’s poem, at the level of both learned and popular literature. This paper aims to analyse the presence and use of characters from the Furioso, but also from the poems by Pulci and Boiardo, in ridiculous epitaphs, a literary genre of great success between the 16th and 17th centuries. Through works such as Il cimiterio by Giovan Francesco Loredan and Pietro Michiel, La tomba by Giovanni Pasta, and Il cimitero giocoso by brothers Sebastiano and Giulio Cesare Mantovani, the relationship between chivalric literature and the composition of facetious epitaphs will be investigated.
