The fortified Bronze Age settlement of Coppa Nevigata has yielded significant evidence related to the managing of fire. At present, approximately 70 fire-relat- ed structures of different kind have been unearthed, from simple hearts to struc- tured clay hearths, to ovens, to large circular structures. During its long-lasting unbroken occupation, spanning almost one millennium, the settlement under- went significant transformations not only of its general layout but also in the strategies of fire management, encompassing the whole range of possible use of this pivotal resource. Each fire structure has been recorded and classified according to morphological criteria, building techniques, location and spatial relationships with other struc- tures in the same area. The possibility to compare data on a diachronic scale allows to highlight simi- larities and differences across the various phases of occupation. This provides supporting evidence for hypotheses on both the social organisation of the resi- dent community and how this changed through time, and possible symbolic im- plications in the pattern of use of specific structures and areas
