This brief note aims to offer some historical and methodological clarification on four key anatomical words (anatomy, dissection, autopsy and prosection) which are often used incorrectly by students and members of the public when referring to human anatomy. The origin, meaning and – for the most important ones – correct pronuncia tion of the words is given as well as recommendations on how to use them correctly.
