Scultura, pittura e teatro alla corte di Raffaele Riario: riflessioni sul Bacco di Michelangelo e prospettive per una ricerca.

This proposed research aims to investigate the connection between artists of the early sixteenth century in Rome and the resurgence of classical theatre, with a specific focus on Michelangelo’s renowned work, Bacchus. The clearly theatrical representation of the god and the analysis of the possible reasons for this iconographical choice will highlight a problem that can also be found in some of Raphael’s masterpieces. At the end of the following analysis, it will be clear how the recovery of the ancient theater in Raffaele Riario’s Rome was much more decisive in the artistic choices of some Renaissance masters than long believed.

L’articolo avanza una proposta di ricerca riguardo il rapporto tra gli artisti del primo Cinquecento a Roma e la riscoperta del teatro classico, focalizzandosi su un’opera cele- berrima di Michelangelo: il Bacco. La rappresentazione del dio, chiaramente teatrale, e l’analisi delle possibili ragioni di questa scelta, metteranno in luce una problematica rintracciabile anche in alcuni dei capolavori di Raffaello. Al termine della seguente ana- lisi si evincerà come il recupero del teatro antico nella Roma di Raffaele Riario, sia stato in realtà molto più determinante nelle scelte artistiche di alcuni maestri rinascimentali di quanto a lungo ritenuto.
