Biancamaria Scarcia Amoretti (Aosta, November 26, 1938 - Rome, September 19, 2020) held the chair of Islamic Studies at Sapienza from 1976. She was a leading scholar in Shi‘ite studies in Italy. This tribute devoted to her memory and to her scholarship is an attempt to provide a unified commentary on three essays, respectively published in 1968, in 1973 and in 1979, focused on the intertwined relationships between Iran, Shi‘ism and heresy. Disentangling the methodological traces that underlie each essay, the tribute aims to let her pioneering approach to the study of Medieval Islam emerge.
