The work summarizes part of the results of a multi-year research carried out for the Italian Army and Navy Staff, on the complex of the defenses of Rome between 1870 and 1943. Intended as the command and control center of the Italian Armed Forces and Corps between the First and Second World Wars and at the beginning of the latter, it had an identical role – as it has been totally ignored so far – to that of all the other works of architecture and urban redesign of the Capital in the period, and here it is addressed for the first time in a systematic way.
