In this study, multi-polarization features extracted from full-polarimetric (FP) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data collected by the C-band RadarSAT-2 and L-band Alos-2 missions are exploited to discriminate the different species of mangroves using the Polarimetric Match Filter. Experiments, undertaken on actual SAR data collected over the Mai Po Marshes Nature Reserve, located in Hong Kong, show that the proposed methodology well discriminates mangroves from the surrounding environment. In addition, a rough classification of the mangroves type is also possible.

Abstract
In this study, multi-polarization features extracted from full-polarimetric (FP) Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data collected by the C-band RadarSAT-2 and L-band Alos-2 missions are exploited to discriminate the different species of mangroves using the Polarimetric Match Filter. Experiments, undertaken on actual SAR data collected over the Mai Po Marshes Nature Reserve, located in Hong Kong, show that the proposed methodology well discriminates mangroves from the surrounding environment. In addition, a rough classification of the mangroves type is also possible.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
