Out of sight: la "perdita ambigua" nella poesia post-Fukushima di Yoko Tawada

The earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011, led to the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear disaster, causing widespread evacuations and long-term environmental contamination. Drawing upon Timothy Morton’s insights on ‘hyperobjects’ – pervasive phenomena that elude human perception and comprehension – and Rob Nixon’s notion of the ‘slow violence’ of radiation, this contribution addresses the poetics of Japanese-German writer Yoko Tawada after the Fukushima disaster, exploring themes of contamination, fear, and ecological grief. Tawada’s poems in the collaborative project out of sight, with French photographer Delphine Parodi, highlight the invisible nature of radiation and express the ‘ambiguous loss’ felt by those affected, where the land remains but is uninhabitable. Through vivid imagery and reflections on the altered human-environment relationship, her language intertwines scientific and technological terms, mirroring the complex post-Fukushima reality.
