The object of this research is the sociophonetic phenomenon of accent-shift, the occurrence of which has already been studied in Anglophone popular music by several scholars; it consists in an artist adopting while singing linguistic variants that are different from their speaking style. The implications of accent-shift invest various branches of the music industries discourse such as social studies, identity construction, aesthetics, and marketing, however, this phenomenon has never been investigated in the context of the Italian music industries. This proposal advocates for a first look at the occurrence of accent-shift in Italian language and music through a mixed qualitative model of research.
