This essay considers how the election of Pope Honorius II in 1124 had been later depicted by Cardinal Pandulf in his continuation of Liber Pontificalis and to what extent the cardinal’s involvement in the Schism following the double election of 1130 and his support for Anacletus II influenced the author’s writing of Honorius’s Vita. A comparison with the Vitae of Gelasius II and Calixtus II, both also written by Pandulf, shows the existence of a progressive development of some of the elements and figures included in Honorius’s Life and the search for new arguments to support Anacletus’s election. This contribute considers all these Vitae as propaganda works, as attacks on the election of Innocent II, and they should be read in light of the on-going schism, a schism which ended only with the sudden and unforeseen death of Anacletus in 1138

Abstract
This essay considers how the election of Pope Honorius II in 1124 had been later depicted by Cardinal Pandulf in his continuation of Liber Pontificalis and to what extent the cardinal’s involvement in the Schism following the double election of 1130 and his support for Anacletus II influenced the author’s writing of Honorius’s Vita. A comparison with the Vitae of Gelasius II and Calixtus II, both also written by Pandulf, shows the existence of a progressive development of some of the elements and figures included in Honorius’s Life and the search for new arguments to support Anacletus’s election.
