Understanding the complex links between social media and health behaviour

Monitoring social media is important to understand public perceptions, biases, and false beliefs. Drawing conclusions on how social media affects health behaviour is difficult because measures are unstandardised, sources are limited, and data are incomplete and biased. Rigorous research is needed from varied settings and demographics to improve understanding of the effect of social media on health behaviour.
