The study focuses on identifying different water systems in the islandof Motya during thefirst half of the1stmillennium BC (Iron Age -Archaic Period/800-480BC). The location in the Marsala Lagoon on the Western tip of Sicilyand the presence of freshwater was fundamental for the birth of the first settlement. The introduction of innovative elements in the field of hydraulics has allowed the city to thrive by making the most of the abundance of fresh water.
