This paper aims to reconsider the architecture of the Roman colony of Alba Fucens through the lithic materials recently discovered in a pit of the Hercules’ Sanctuary. The remains of the colonnade (shafts and a capitals) of the Sanctuary’s square allows to reconstruct the architecture of the sacred area and to compare this with the other public buildings of the Roman town, coeval to the Sanctuary. The findings of sculptures and mouldings inside the pit confirm the large amount of votives dedicated in the sanctuary. Their original position can be hypothesised beneath the long porticoes with statues of local magistrates and of Gods and Goddesses. Lastly the great amount of white and coloured marbles slabs and sectilia shows the variety of marbles imported in Alba Fucens and, possibly, points out the moment of the Roman town’s marmorisation, that should have happened at the beginning of Empire era.

Abstract
Lastly the great amount of white and coloured marbles slabs and sectilia shows the variety of marbles imported in Alba Fucens and, possibly, points out the moment of the Roman town’s marmorisation, that should have happened at the beginning of Empire era.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
