Arturo Carlo Jemolo founder of the Institute and the Library of Public Law in the Faculty of Jurisprudence of the Royal University of Rome (part three : 1950-1956) · This contribution aims to shed light on the events that led to the foundation of the Institute and the Library of Public Law in the Faculty of Jurisprudence of the Royal University of Rome (later : University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’ and Sapienza University of Rome), thanks to the decisive work of Arturo Carlo Jemolo, from 1936 onward. Having ended the historical phase that saw the course of the Second World War, the fall of Fascism, the anti-Semitic persecution, the Resistance, the transition from Monarchy to Republic, the promulgation of the Italian Constitution, and the not always idyllic relations between State and Roman Church, the period under examination in this third part, which runs from 1950 to 1956, is rich in facts relevant to the chronological reconstruction of the stages underlying the two inseparable bodies : the Institute and the Library, with the latter constituting, in Jemolo’s view, the driving machine of the former. The narrative unfolds through two strands that often intersect, creating an articulated tale in which one can glimpse both Jemolo’s University activities and his cultural battle concerning the themes of religious freedom and the secularity of the State (1950-1954). Jemolo’s last directorship of the Institute (1954-1956) coincides with the administrative consolidation of the entity he was in charge of (1955), and the donation of Professor Vincenzo Del Giudice’s private book collection to the Public Law Library (1956).

Abstract
Jemolo’s last directorship of the Institute (1954-1956) coincides with the administrative consolidation of the entity he was in charge of (1955), and the donation of Professor Vincenzo Del Giudice’s private book collection to the Public Law Library (1956).File | Dimensione | Formato | |
