Abstract: The aim of this paper is to explore the discursive and narrative strategies at work in parables, which are seen as transition devices from one way of believing to another. The interest of the parable in the problem of social transitions lies in the particularity of the communication model that underlies it. Its object seems in fact not to be the passage of a quantity of information but the transformation of the way in which the subjects of communication act. My hypothesis is that parable thus operates as an interpretative scheme of experiences and as a productive scheme of new actions. In order to explore this dimension where pragmatics and semantics intersect, my analysis will be carried out by using the methodology of structural and generative semiotics to analyse a corpus consisting of a film by Pier Paolo Pasolini (Uccellacci e Uccellini) and the protest practices of Danilo Dolci, the Italian intellectual who called for the application of the new democratic constitution after the Second World War.
