Sartre a Venezia. Il miraggio veneziano e la tentazione di una letteratura « dégagée »

The present contribution aims to reconstruct the complex relationship of Jean-Paul Sartre with the city of Venice through the analysis of two texts that the writer dedicated to the Serenissima: La Reine Albemarle ou le dernier touriste and Venise de ma fenêtre. Through a thorough study of these texts, we will try to show how the latter, often poorly studied and considered marginal, actually play a role of absolute relevance within the intellectual path of Sartre. Starting from the works under examination, the hypothesis will be advanced that Venice has represented for Sartre the place where it can revive a vision of literature closer to the early years, the same that Sartre had declared impossible after the war.

Il presente contributo ha l’obiettivo di ricostruire il complesso rapporto di Jean-Paul Sartre con la città di Venezia attraverso l’analisi di due testi che lo scrittore ha dedicato alla Serenissima: "La Reine Albemarle ou le dernier touriste" e "Venise de ma fenêtre". Tramite un approfondito studio di tali testi, si cercherà di mostrare come questi ultimi, spesso poco studiati e ritenuti marginali, ricoprano in realtà un ruolo di assoluta rilevanza all’interno del percorso intellettuale di Sartre. A partire dalle opere in esame, si avanzerà infine l’ipotesi che Venezia abbia rappresentato per Sartre il luogo dove poter far rivivere una visione della letteratura più vicina ai primi anni, la stessa che Sartre aveva dichiarato come impossibile all’indomani della guerra.
