Two fragments of a marble relief with weapons from the Forum of Augustus are published thanks to a systematic review of the stone materials preserved in the storage rooms at the Imperial Fora. The fragments, whose iconography fits well into the framework of trophy decorations of the late Republican and Augustan periods, allow the authors to argue for a greater relevance of war topics in the Augustan monument than previously imagined. They also shed new light on the development of a motif that would later find a broad application in the more recent Forum of Trajan, which provides further evidence regarding the network of cross-references between the decoration of the Fora of Augustus and Trajan.

Abstract
Two fragments of a marble relief with weapons from the Forum of Augustus are published thanks to a systematic review of the stone materials preserved in the storage rooms at the Imperial Fora. The fragments, whose iconography fits well into the framework of trophy decorations of the late Republican and Augustan periods, allow the authors to argue for a greater relevance of war topics in the Augustan monument than previously imagined. They also shed new light on the development of a motif that would later find a broad application in the more recent Forum of Trajan, which provides further evidence regarding the network of cross-references between the decoration of the Fora of Augustus and Trajan.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
