The city of Ostia offers not only significant examples of “talking mosaics”, but also a remarkable variety of alphabetical and numerical graffiti and drawings carved into the stone floors of public and private buildings. This is a useful heritage for reconstructing the use of spaces and for understanding the different ways of utilising a city where people play, pass time, and work, but also where different religions meet.
