Fragments of Scribal Bilingualism in Lexical Lists. The choice of verbal nouns in -war (-mar) versus nouns in -(ā)tar and -eššar

This paper aims at analysing the Hittite heteroclite nouns in -war (-mar) which are documented in the Hittite lexical lists, in order to evaluate their correspondence with the respective Akkadian entries and to take into consideration the similarities and the differences with the forms in -(ā)tar and -eššar occurring in the same texts. Indeed, the bilingual or trilingual lists found at Ḫattuša have sections in Sumerian and/or Akkadian, and an additional column with the Hittite translation. The semantics of these Hittite heteroclite nouns will be evaluated, contextualising them within the metalinguistic textual frame of the lexical lists, which can represent a concrete field of investigation in which linguistic contact can be observed through the manifestation of fragments of linguistic interference.
