L'età della profanazione. Riabitare il limite nell’epoca del sovra-consumo

The Age of Profanation. We are beings who consume and forget. The sacredness of the limit has been traded in exchange for the great illusion of our age: the inexhaustibility of resources. The text investigates the concept of limits starting from the contribution of Latouche. We have profaned the nature by bulimically building and voraciously subtracting resources. Man inevitably consumes: the problematic nature of this act lies in the variation of its quantity which has compromised its quality. The exhaustion of fossil fuels, together with the overpopulation that characterizes many areas of our planet, deserves to be followed closely, both to locate it precisely between the various causes of global warming, and to insinuate in ourselves a new instance: our cities will still be habitable? What does it mean to live in the limit? The text intends to use the motivations behind new forms of inhabiting, living and building, outlining some examples in the contemporary world. Only in this way, by opposing what is defined by A. Gosh as the “Great Blindness” of our times, it is possible to rediscover the sacredness of the limit. Rethinking our way of living is not the consummate warning of “experts”, but the personal need of every human being to guarantee a future: not catastrophism but survival instinct.

Siamo esseri che consumano e dimenticano. La sacralità del limite è stata barattata in cambio della grande illusione della nostra epoca: l'inesauribilità delle risorse. Nel testo si indaga il concetto di limite partendo dal contributo di Latouche. Abbiamo profanato la natura costruendo bulimicamente e sottraendo voracemente risorse. L'uomo inevitabilmente consuma: la problematicità di quest'atto sta nella variazione della sua quantità che ne ha compromesso la qualità. Vengono analizzate le modalità che hanno attraverso l'abuso delle risorse da parte dell'uomo causato i gravi danni che ci apprestiamo ad affrontare. L'esaurimento dei combustibili fossili, insieme alla sovrappopolazione che caratterizza molte aree del nostro pianeta, merita di essere seguito da vicino, sia per collocarlo con esattezza nelle svariate cause del surriscaldamento globale, sia per insinuare in noi una nuova istanza: le nostre città saranno ancora abitabili? Cosa significa abitare nel limite? Il testo intende mettere in campo le motivazioni alla base di nuove forme di abitare, vivere e costruire, delineando alcuni esempi della contemporaneità. Solo così, opponendosi a quella che viene definita da A.Gosh la “Grande Cecità” dei nostri tempi, è possibile ri-trovare la sacralità del limite. In quest'ottica ripensare il nostro modo di abitare non è il consumato monito di “addetti ai lavori”, ma la personale necessità di ogni essere umano di garantirsi un futuro: non catastrofismo ma istinto di sopravvivenza.
