Plato’s allegory of the cave, as told in Book VII of Πολιτεία, is undoubtedly one of the most meaningful images in Western philosophy, as what determines its ultimate task and fate. According to Plato himself, this tale – a μῦϑος indeed – concerns education as the formation of human beings, or rather their transformation and liberation as παιδεία. However, during Winter Semester 1931-32, Heidegger teaches a course mainly focused on this allegory, claiming to be carrying out a research on truth. What is at stake in this course, Vom Wesen der Wahrheit, is Heidegger’s claim that the fundamental account on education in Western thought is an exposition of truth as unconcealment, ἀλήϑεια; and for this truth to be essentially the forming force of men, as it has always already educated and shaped their view. This article aims at shedding some light on Heidegger’s stance.

Abstract
This article aims at shedding some light on Heidegger’s stance.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
