Through the funds of the Institute of Ethiopian Studies (Addis Abeba), the author aims to analyze three types of “acts detrimental to the prestige of the race” – offense against authority and honor, manifest drunkenness and interracial violence – in Italian East Africa (1936-1941). In this regard, the essay examines the deleterious effects of these crimes on the colonial order and the power of the colonisers, with a special focus on the economically and socially precarious circumstances of the Italians involved in the criminal trials.
