Architettura controriformista a Recanati e a Tivoli (1621-1652). Le committenze del cardinale Giulio Roma

The essay concerns the architectural works commissioned by Cardinal Giulio Roma (1584-1652) during his most demanding ecclesiastical assignments: he was bishop of Recanati-Loreto (1621-1634) and Tivoli (1634-1652). More to the point, his work striclty follows the Instructiones Fabricae et Supellectiles Ecclesiasticae, written in 1577 by Saint Carlo Borromeo. In fact, Giulio Roma was explicitly inspired by Borromeo: in thinking, customs, lifestyle and diocesan management. The essay analyzes his architectural works from a stylistic point of view, in the artistic trends of the early seventeenth century: in Recanati, works in the Cathedral of San Flaviano and the construction of the church and convent of Santa Maria Assunta; in Tivoli, the rebuilt of the Cathedral of San Lorenzo and the palace of the Episcopal Seminary; in the Diocese of Tivoli, the constuction of the parish churches of San Michele Arcangelo in Vallinfreda and of San Giovanni Battista in Cineto Romano.
