The main purpose of this work is to systematically reconstruct the context of industrial symbiosis initiatives, focusing on the networks of actors, the roles they play, the factors that determined the initiative, the obstacles that hinder (or have hindered) their implementation, the expected and/or achieved benefits, and the development prospects. This is achieved through the presentation of an original database of 18 case studies.
