Albanian Architecture introduction

Florian Nepravishta has been working for years as a designer and professor for the enhancement of his country's architectural culture on the global stage. In light of his theoretical and design school architecture in Albania, it is gaining popularity and influence worldwide. Certainly, it is favoured by a strong cultural interest and a government willing to support it. Albania is producing a multiplicity of new "auteur" urban landmarks (MVRDV, Grimshaw, Liebeskind Architects, 51N4E, Stefano Boeri Architetti, Mario Cucinella Architects, Archea Associati, Bolles+Willson, Marco Petreschi, Sou Fujimoto, etc.) and a new generation of designers. Their work is perhaps still characterized by an appreciable spirit of emulation of the most significant recent international experiences, with inventiveness, flair, creative use of materials and dynamic formal experimentation. In some works, the paradigms of landscape-environmental design, recycling and common open-space design emerge. This small but highly influential handful of practitioners is shaping the future direction of Albanian architecture.
