La Rangordnung nella legione tardo antica. Analisi della dispositio di Anastasio nell'epigrafe di Perge.

Recently, an inscription found in the Pamphylian city of Perge was published, allowing us to read a military decree of Emperor Anastasius I (491-518 AD) that was otherwise unknown. The decree also contains a matricula, which lists the exact number of men in a late Roman legion, as well as their pay by rank. This unique document is, however, mutilated in its last part. This article provides an analysis and commentary on the matricula, comparing it with complementary literary, epigraphic, and papyrological sources and allowing the reconstruction of the organisation and command mechanisms of the late Roman legion. Moreover, it is possible to provide an integration proposal for the missing part of the inscription, consequently allowing the determination of the exact number of soldiers making up a legion at Anastasius’ time, that is 1521 men.
