Verbal gapping involves the elimination of a verb shared by two conjuncts that are related to each other. Despite their symmetrical syntactic structure, the coordinated sentences are constructed with different elements, generally in opposition. This article aims to examine this particular phenomenon within the corpus of the Senecan Epistulae, in order to analyse the frequency and semantics of the passages in which it occurs. The data obtained by retracing the entire Senecan epistolary corpus will be useful to outline further characteristics pertaining to the author's style.

Abstract
Verbal gapping involves the elimination of a verb shared by two conjuncts that are related to each other. Despite their symmetrical syntactic structure, the coordinated sentences are constructed with different elements, generally in opposition. This article aims to examine this particular phenomenon within the corpus of the Senecan Epistulae, in order to analyse the frequency and semantics of the passages in which it occurs. The data obtained by retracing the entire Senecan epistolary corpus will be useful to outline further characteristics pertaining to the author's style.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
