Between the second half of the Sixteenth and the first decades of the Seventeenth Centuries, two of the most influential cities of the Italian peninsula – Rome and Milan – were living in a time of fruitful relations and cultural exchanges. The election of Pope Pius IV in 1559 and the death of the Milanese Archbishop Federico Borromeo in 1631 marked the beginning and the end of this period, in which Charles Borromeo – Pius IV’s Cardinalnephew, canonized as Saint Charles in 1610 – played a pivotal role. This book explores the strong ties between Rome and Milan during this time frame, through different perspectives. The essays analyze patrons, architects, architectural models, liturgical issues, and, in general, topics related with architecture and the city. In order to highlight the reciprocal interactions and influences, the essays are divided in four main chapters: Types, Models, Languages and Projects. In this way, each case study is placed into the broader context of mutual transfers between the two cities. The result depicts a complex and multifaceted scenario, that may open up to future researches.

Abstract
The result depicts a complex and multifaceted scenario, that may open up to future researches.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
