The geostrategic impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on the international system and in the Mediterranean Basin: security threats and lessons learnt

The challenges posed by the war in Ukraine risk to deeply affect the international power balance and its security architecture, with clear political and economic effects which reverberate worldwide, especially in term of price shocks, energy and food security. The enlarged Mediterranean is not an exception, and the current crisis seems to exacerbate the already present socio-economic vulnerabilities of the region, increasing the regional level of instability.

Le conseguenze dell’attuale guerra in Ucraina rischiano di incidere profondamente sugli equilibri di potere sia a livello globale che regionale, ponendo evidenti sfide securitarie ed economiche. I paesi del Mediterraneo allargato non fanno eccezione, e gli effetti del conflitto potrebbero esacerbare le già presenti vulnerabilità socio-economiche della regione provocando effetti a catena in termini di sicurezza alimentare, crisi economica e instabilità sociale.
