Le necropoli di Çuka e Ajtoit. Vecchie e nuove ricerche a confronto

The site of Çuka e Ajtoit - now in Southern Albania, a few kilometers from the Greek border, and in antiquity a reference cen- ter of the Cestrine region - is known in bibliography for the imposing fortifications of the Hellenistic age, a planning of different building techniques, from the polygonal to the rectangular isodomic work. Almost nothing is known about the location of its necropolis, “frequented” even in recent years by clandestine excavations. From the investigations of the Italian archaeological mis- sion directed by L.M. Ugolini, who excavated some tombs in 1929, to the most recent field research of the joint Italian-Albanian mission involving the Sapienza University of Rome and the Archaeological Institute of Tirana, this contribution wants to offer an exhaustive and updated overview of the state of our knowledge on the funerary culture of the site
