La giustizia ecclesiastica nel Mezzogiorno tra Cinquecento e Settecento. Il caso di Vieste

This essay aims to investigate the relationships between ecclesiastical and secular authorities from the late Sixteenth century to the early Eighteenth century, in a circumscribed context ofsouthern Italy, the diocese of Vieste. The paper also aimsto analyse the attempts of the bishopsto involve the court of the Holy Office in issuesthat did not concern the defence of orthodoxy, butratherlocal con- trasts. The study is based on the analysis of unpublished documents preserved in the Archive of the Curia of Vieste, the State Archives of Naples and the Archive of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
