«Un’eresia della religione della libertà». Gramsci e la religione moderna dell’immanenza

Since his youthful writings, Gramsci has declared the end of the religions of transcendence and the affirmation of a religion of immanence. This modern religion, which finds its main expression in Hegel's philosophy, has important developments in authors such as Ricardo and Marx. In the Prison Notebooks Gramsci underlines the moral crisis opened by the end of traditional religious discourse and outlines a new form of civil religion. In this analysis, the observations on pedagogy and school reform are of particular importance. With a passage from Benedetto Croce's History of Europe, Gram- sci defines religion as a conception of the world with an ethical norm of con- duct.
