The reorganization, cataloging and study of the materials found in the area of the central Cryptoporticus of the Domus Tiberiana during the excavations conducted between 2006 and 2013, have brought to evidence a substantial core of sectilia slabs made mainly of non-marble materials (palombino, green litomarga and slate) and more rarely in marble (cipollino and giallo antico). These are rhomboidal elements and to a lesser extent square and hexagonal in shape, the formats of which are partialy compatible with the impressions preserved in the floor preparations of the known pavements in the House of Augustus, pointing to a similar chronological framing. Although these fragments are no longer in situ, found in the rooms below the imperial palace in filling layers whose historical events are still under study, these materials are of particular interest for the history of opus sectile floors of the late Republican period, even in consideration of the scarcity of attestations of this type from the Palatine area.

Abstract
Although these fragments are no longer in situ, found in the rooms below the imperial palace in filling layers whose historical events are still under study, these materials are of particular interest for the history of opus sectile floors of the late Republican period, even in consideration of the scarcity of attestations of this type from the Palatine area.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
