Aim of the research was to assess the relationship between right atrial mechanoreceptors slight stimulation and forearm venous tone. 15 patients showing MMTR (Echocardiocolordoppler assessment) were selected and submitted to strain-gauge plethysmografy (PGS) at 20-40-60 mmHg venous occlusion at right forearm. This group was compared with a number, sex and age matched control group. The PGS tests were carried out in single blind. The results of the study show in MMTR a significant (all parameters, p<0.05) decrease of Venous Tone (-29.6%) and conversely a rise of Venous Distensibility (+ 25%) and of the time of Total Emptying (+.91%), without any change in Venous Pressure. It means that a slight atrial mechanoreceptors stimulation (like MMTR) causes loss in sympathetic venous constrictor tone in forearm vessels.
