The article describes and comments from the perspective of architectural conservation the recent Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library renovation project designed by the architectural firm Mecanoo. The focus is mainly on the interior floor plan transformations and new additions that weave a sometimes dissonant but respectful dialogue with Mies' architecture and allow the building to be adapted to contemporary needs.
