The provenance study of Athena/ Tripod bronze coins from the Greek city of Velia was carried out by investigating the Lead isotope ratios at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso-INFN. Lead isotope results were compared with those published from different mines of the Mediterranean areas to fingerprint the sources of these coins. Most of the coins have obtained a certain provenance overlapping the clusters of Spain (S-E and N-E area), Italy (Tuscany and Sardinia), Greece (Sifnos) and Cyprus (one coin). Twenty- three coins show uncertain provenance indicating the possibility of metal recycling. This information, integrated with archaeological ones, helps to reconstruct the trade routes and socio-economic relationship of Velia.
