This essay demonstrates that the text of 'Coriolanus' as reprinted for inclusion in the Fourth Folio of 1685 was prepared for press by an annotating reader, thus showing a non-authorial agent at work and fulfilling a range of editorial activities generally believed to have started with the first named editor of Shakespeare, Nicholas Rowe, in 1709.
