This study aims to show how John Wyclif’s project for political reform is rooted in a theocentric view of creation. The project reveals the inherently political nature of medieval metaphysics as a metaphysics of divine sovereignty and creaturely subservience. God creates the world to manifest his goodness and the creature becomes the raw material and instrument of his theophanic representation. The sanctification of politics appears then to be a form of deification of the world and divine self-glorification.

Abstract
This study aims to show how John Wyclif’s project for political reform is rooted in a theocentric view of creation. The project reveals the inherently political nature of medieval metaphysics as a metaphysics of divine sovereignty and creaturely subservience. God creates the world to manifest his goodness and the creature becomes the raw material and instrument of his theophanic representation. The sanctification of politics appears then to be a form of deification of the world and divine self-glorification.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
