Early Russo-Chinese relations bear the footprints of Sava Vladislavić, a Serbian adventurer turned into one of the Czars’ most trusted diplomats. After negotiating the Treaty of Kjachta (1728), opening China to Russian merchants and missionaries, he left a Secret Report, the Sekretnaja informacija (1731), meant to influence Russia’s posture to her eastern neighbour. Drawing from the Secret Report, various official sources, and secondary literature in Serbian and Russian, the present submission aims at outlining Vladislavić’s personal contribution to Russo-Chinese relations and his role as initiator of a new “knowledge regime” towards China in 17th century Russia.

Abstract
Early Russo-Chinese relations bear the footprints of Sava Vladislavić, a Serbian adventurer turned into one of the Czars’ most trusted diplomats. After negotiating the Treaty of Kjachta (1728), opening China to Russian merchants and missionaries, he left a Secret Report, the Sekretnaja informacija (1731), meant to influence Russia’s posture to her eastern neighbour. Drawing from the Secret Report, various official sources, and secondary literature in Serbian and Russian, the present submission aims at outlining Vladislavić’s personal contribution to Russo-Chinese relations and his role as initiator of a new “knowledge regime” towards China in 17th century Russia.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
