Libraries are going through a profound transition. In recent years, the nature of the library as a key infrastructure for people’s well-being has increasingly been put at the centre of reflection. But can we think of libraries as fundamental infrastructure to improve people’s quality of life without considering the working conditions of librarians? The project ‘Culture, contracts and working conditions. Analysis of the employment situation of Marche libraries’ commissioned by the Marche Section of the AIB to BIBLAB allowed us to reflect on this topic, and to understand that we cannot study libraries and design their impact without considering their workers.
